Marking the installation of Breuer-Weil’s 23 foot tall Flight in Central London starting this November, this multi-venue exhibition includes works on display in King’s Cross, Portman Square and Harbour Central in London, pieces in Canterbury as well as maquettes, working models and mock-ups of new works in development and on commission, inspired by photographs taken by the artist around the world. The artist is working on individual pieces as well as installations and sculpture garden projects internationally.
The artist comments ‘Each large outdoor piece, glanced in an instant by passers by, involves a whole process in arriving at the final iconic image, and that image is often a distillation of many ideas into one intense block of physical presence. The aim of this exhibition is to exhibit these raw physical objects in urban settings, in varied landscapes that fit the motifs, on water to make use of reflections to enhance the meaning and aesthetic of each work. I want to explore the psychological ramifications of these very human objects, but also to allow the viewer an insight into the process of starting with tiny thumbnail sketches in pencil, paint, wax, clay or plaster, using photographs that I have taken in order to spark off a sculptural idea. I often paint directly on the photograph, combining the real with the imagined. I make a maquette, cast it in bronze, make a larger model, and begin the process of turning a thought into a concrete reality.’
